April 2009 Desktop Calendar

At the beginning of every month in 2009, I will be offering C&Z readers a new desktop calendar, i.e. a wallpaper to apply on the desktop of your computer, with a food-related picture and a calendar of the current month.
Our desktop calendar for April is a picture of a cheese plate served at Le Pré Catelan, a restaurant whose cheese is aged by cheese refiner Alléosse. (Incidentally, both are written up in my Paris book.) Clockwise from the top, the plate features portions of Livarot, Comté, Fourme d'Ambert, Selles-sur-Cher, and Brillat-Savarin.
Instructions to get your calendar are below!
Here's how it works:
1- This link will open a new window (or tab) displaying the right wallpaper image for your screen.
2- Right-click (or ctrl-click for some Mac users) on the image, and chose the option that says, "Set as Desktop Background", "Use as Desktop Picture," or something to that effect -- the exact wording will depend on the browser you use.
3- If the image does not fit your desktop background neatly, you may have to go to your preference screen (on a Mac: System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop; on Windows: Control Panel > Display > Desktop) and choose "Fit to screen" as the display mode of your background image.
4- Enjoy, and see you in May for the next calendar!

Delicious, thanks.
Posted by Ed on April 1, 2009 11:52 AMWhat a beautiful calendar! Not only do the cheeses look delicious, but the tone they set is perfect for our days ahead through springtime! I very appreciate your wonderful monthly gifts.
Posted by Mike Crauderueff on April 1, 2009 1:49 PMI love my C&Z desktop calendars! But this month the calendar is on the left side of the image, and all my desktop icons block it. Any way to put the calendar on the right corner like usual?
Posted by PJ on April 1, 2009 2:38 PMOh it's only fair to have it on the left every once in awhile, all the desktop icons are on the right side of the screen on macs.
Posted by Samantha on April 1, 2009 5:31 PMFormidable!
Posted by Francine on April 1, 2009 5:37 PMThanks so much for such a great desktop display...it makes me smile each time I look at it.
Posted by Janette on April 1, 2009 7:38 PMI do have to agree with PJ concerning the calendar being blocked by my icons on the left side but it is a small price to pay for such an amazing picture. I always enjoy reading your posts and hope that you continue posting for years to come.
Very nice! Can't miss with cheese!
Posted by Roberto N. on April 1, 2009 8:26 PMUgh. I normally use these beautiful desktop calendars but I just decided to go off dairy. It would be too cruel.
Posted by Kati on April 1, 2009 8:29 PMGreat idea!
Posted by noble pig on April 1, 2009 8:34 PMOh, it's so beautiful (not that they aren't beautiful every month.) This cheese spread seems fit perfectly for the April weather in Chicago. Thanks so much!
Posted by Emily on April 1, 2009 8:38 PMOh how lovely! I just had some Comte last week. Wonderful! I don't mind the calendar moving; it makes me clean up my desk top
Posted by Denise on April 1, 2009 9:02 PMPJ, you can move your desktop icons too - just drag and drop!
Beautiful calendar! I just discovered this and am looking forward to them each month!
Posted by lb on April 1, 2009 9:47 PMI love, love, love these calendars! I'm even getting used to the fact that the weeks start with Monday instead of Sunday (which makes sense, of course; I don't know why U.S. calendars aren't like that!).
Posted by Alix on April 2, 2009 12:44 AMPretty as the cheeses are, it was the plate and the knife and fork that grabbed my attention. See, we are doing presentation at school (I'm a culinary school student) and I want nicer dinnerware to play with.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Posted by CookingSchoolConfidential.com on April 2, 2009 1:54 AMhooray, cheese! thank you thank you. my april just got that much more delicious.
Posted by Laura on April 2, 2009 2:55 AMPJ and Janette - As lb pointed out, desktop icons can be moved where you want them. (If you find they move back to their original position, then you have to turn off the option to position them automatically; it should be in a preferences panel somewhere.)
Posted by clotilde on April 2, 2009 11:23 AMthat's so cool - thank you!
Posted by Tabitha @ From Single to Married on April 2, 2009 5:53 PMBeautiful! Great idea!
Posted by Nicole on April 2, 2009 7:55 PMWhat a great idea! And, one can be hungry the whole month long.
Posted by unconfidentialcook on April 2, 2009 8:47 PMMmmmmm! Since I believe cheese is the "other white meat" and one of the four major food groups that must be enjoyed daily, this is perfect. Thank you:) Delicious!
Posted by Jill on April 2, 2009 10:19 PMAgain, beautiful cheese image. I'd like to throw in my 2 cents re: the calendar. I was pleasantly surprised to find it on the left this month. Yea! out from under the icons =-)
Posted by Mike on April 3, 2009 1:04 AMYes, this is a yummy background. Mac users, you can move your dock to accommodate any background. Pull down the Apple menu, select Dock, select position option desired.
Happily for me, this pic fit perfectly with my desktop icons! Thank you.
Posted by Adnil on April 3, 2009 4:16 AMI love these calendars...I don't know if I can use this one though or I'll constantly crave cheese!
