May 2009 Desktop Calendar

At the beginning of every month in 2009, I am offering C&Z readers a new desktop calendar, i.e. a wallpaper to apply on the desktop of your computer, with a food-related picture and a calendar of the current month.
Our desktop calendar for May is a picture of what I am eagerly waiting for: fresh, locally grown petits pois. They should be here any minute now, and I can't wait to start popping pods (see green pea shelling instructions). I like my peas simply steamed, especially as a side to a roasted duck fillet, or in the peacamole I recently wrote about. As for the pods, they will certainly not get tossed, but rather turned into a chilled pea pod soup.
Instructions to get your calendar are below!
Here's how it works:
1- This link will open a new window (or tab) displaying the right wallpaper image for your screen.
2- Right-click (or ctrl-click for some Mac users) on the image, and chose the option that says, "Set as Desktop Background", "Use as Desktop Picture," or something to that effect -- the exact wording will depend on the browser you use.
3- If the image does not fit your desktop background neatly, you may have to go to your preference screen (on a Mac: System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop; on Windows: Control Panel > Display > Desktop) and choose "Fit to screen" as the display mode of your background image.
4- Enjoy, and see you in June for the next calendar!

Clothilde,
I love the wallpapers! You are so marvelous for providing them for our use!
Thank you, thank you,

Posted by Susan Chardin on May 1, 2009 11:37 AMThank you so much. I had your April one on my desktop - those lovely cheeses - and both my mother and my daughter said "Oh, how can you - doesn't it make you need cheese NOW!" which amused me. I was looking forward to seeing May's, and it has not disappointed.
Thank you again.
Posted by Mrs Redboots on May 1, 2009 12:56 PMI love this photo, especially with the curly-cued tip of the pod you left at the top of the plate. Simply beautiful! Thanks!

Great image! I can't wait for the fresh peas. My family calls me a pea snob because I can barely choke down a frozen pea, but can eat fresh ones for hours.
Posted by Cookin' Canuck on May 1, 2009 2:48 PMBeautiful. We never get fresh peas here in the Caribbean so I'm jealous!

Posted by Hazel on May 4, 2009 7:57 PMAnother lovely calendar!
Clotilde, have you discontinued your "Bonjour (mois)" newsletter? I realized I didn't get one this month, and I've come to look forward to them!
Posted by Alix on May 5, 2009 2:01 AMAlix - The newsletter went out on Sunday. You should have received it by now, but perhaps you can check your spam folder; it may have been caught there. Let me know!
Posted by clotilde on May 5, 2009 9:26 AMI so enjoyed your April cheese picture, that I didn't even realize it was 5 days into May already! Thank you again for another lovely picture.
Posted by Joie de vivre on May 5, 2009 6:15 PMRien in the spam folder... I think maybe my browser is terminally ill, because there are all kinds of weird symptoms like this going on lately... I can download the calendar, anyway!
Posted by Alix on May 5, 2009 11:07 PMThis picture is gorgeous! I have been taking advantage of the peas that have started appearing at my market here in the 5th, and each time I shell them and end up with a bowlful of perfect peas, I'm almost sorry to use them because of how pretty they are.
Posted by emiglia on May 6, 2009 4:45 PMThanks for the great info re LARA bars! Just got your book; many thanks; I dreamed of April in Paris all last month.

Thank you so much for these wonderful calendars. I'm terribly late this month but was enjoying the cheese so much that I just forgot!
The peas are another winner of course. They naturally remind all of us of your fabulous poicamole from last month. I was very inspired by that recipe, and I've made and thoroughly enjoyed it twice now. My only quibble would be about the name. I think poicamole is a fantastic name, but with the nut paste in it I thought it tasted more like a poisto.
