June 2009 Desktop Calendar

June '09 Desktop Calendar

At the beginning of every month in 2009, I am offering C&Z readers a new desktop calendar, i.e. a wallpaper to apply on the desktop of your computer, with a food-related picture and a calendar of the current month.

Our desktop calendar for June is a picture of gariguette strawberries taken at the Anvers greenmarket.

Maxence is in fact growing strawberry plants in one of our window boxes this year, and like the wild strawberries of a few summers ago, they are in great shape. Of course each of our two little plants is delivering its fruits sparingly, making us extra grateful for each of the delicious berries they yield, but also making it necessary to turn to the pros for the rest of my needs -- I have my mother's strawberry tart and ichigo daifuku to make!

What about you -- care to share your favorite ways to use fresh strawberries?

Instructions to get your calendar are below.

Here's how it works:

1- This link will open a new window (or tab) displaying the right wallpaper image for your screen.

2- Right-click (or ctrl-click for some Mac users) on the image, and chose the option that says, "Set as Desktop Background", "Use as Desktop Picture," or something to that effect -- the exact wording will depend on the browser you use.

3- If the image does not fit your desktop background neatly, you may have to go to your preference screen (on a Mac: System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop; on Windows: Control Panel > Display > Desktop) and choose "Fit to screen" as the display mode of your background image.

4- Enjoy, and see you in July for the next calendar!

Never miss a recipe!

Thanks again for another great wallpaper!

Lovely berries but I'm going to miss the peas!

cet arrière-plan est tellement beau. merci.

Pretty overwhelming, like March's blackboard. Feb made me queasy, not being a runny-egg person, January was lovely, April's cheese my favorite by far, May's peas really nice. The blast of strawberry noise may not last on my desktop since it is so hard to see anything else there. Alas--I love C&Z, the blog, the book, the buzz.... bring back the lighter, less busy desktop wallpapers like Jan, April and May!!

I cannot tell you the pure joy these computer wallpaper images give me. I use them on my computer at work. Every morning they brighten my day and just make me smile.

It is a great idea. Thanks.

I adore strawberries -- picked a pint from the garden this morning and had some with Greek yogurt and homemade granola for breakfast. Tonight I will make cupcakes with fresh strawberry icing for my visiting stepson. Made your strawberry clafouti on Saturday -- great dessert and Sunday breakfast. Next weekend: Jam!

Lovely graphics - thanks for sharing!

As for my fave way to have fresh strawberries - cut into quarters, dressed with (good quality) balsamic vinegar, sugar and just a touch of freshly-ground pepper. Yummy!

Love the strawberries, Clotilde. Thank you so much for sharing this wallpaper. I have been craving strawberries the last few weeks and since I'm having a party on Thursday night, I'm dipping fresh strawberries in white chocolate to serve. Yum!

Steeped in a little sugar syrup, over still-warm buttermilk biscuits with homemade whipped cream!

Clotilde, I've read your blog for what feels like ever, but am only de-lurking today. Your food and writing has been an inspiration to me!

That photo looks gorgeous. We're still waiting for strawberries here in London, but when they arrive I probably won't mess with them too much. Stewed slightly with some balsamic vinegar for serving over ice cream- yum.

Gorgeous color! Thanks again for another lovely wallpaper :-)

Great photo of the strawberries. They're about three weeks away from being ready in this part of Wisconsin.

We pick them greedily at a local pick-your-own farm and make (and give away) the best glazed pies. Friends are already asking about them.

Oh I love the wallpaper! It's like a great food-of-the-month club!

Oooh, I love strawberries! No fresh strawberries at the Farmers Market yesterday, but I found some really pretty organic onces at the health food market here in the Denver, Co., area. My hubby, Dave, prepped them, and I made homemade strawberry ice cream later in the day. We then had my favorite summer meal: barbecued chicken, potato salad, and homemade ice cream for dessert. Everything was super delish!!! Thanks for the wallpaper! Much love and many blessings, June

Makes me hungry to look at the calendar. I have not turned my calendars to June yet; just got home from school.

I've had fresh strawberries here in Atlanta, GA since late January; Florida berries are the best. Right now, it is California ones and they are $1.65 for a pound box at the grocery store, or $2.88 for a two pound box at Sam's Club. It seems to be a different variety as these California berries are not hollow inside and the color is much darker than in years past.

I await the recipe for your tart. I use a lot for chocolate fondue, smoothies, pie, eat out of hand, or add Splenda and top angel food cake or premium ice cream with them. I bought a dozen 4 oz jelly jars and hope to make some strawberry jam; school will end Wed for teachers.

Oooo, strawberries... I don't mess with them if they're sweet, if they're not, the possibilities are endless. Add a little sugar, a little lemon juice, and let it macerate in the fridge. Good as a topping or eaten just like that.

If I have an abundance of them, I'd boil them in a bit of water and some sugar, maybe a bit of lemon juice if I feel like it, transfer them to a roasting pan, then put it in a 200F oven until the liquid turns into a thick syrup. Takes a long time, but well worth it.

If I want something simple, I just slice some strawberries and pour sweetened condensed milk over them. Let stand. EAT!
Enjoy the strawberry season everybody!!!

Oh this is so pretty! The newsprint-colored baskets and handles break up the bright color nicely. Thank you for making this. =)

At my house, the favorite way of enjoying strawberries is straight from basket to mouth. Nothing beats nature (and the strawberries are all gone before I get around to making a cake with them).

Lovely! Thanks for the strawberries, they are at their height right now here in NC. This weekend we made strawberry/blueberry clafoutis and strawberry jam! Yummmm! and thanks to June's comment homemade strawberry ice cream is on the list for next weekend!

love it!

Beautiful photo but unfortunately I can't see the icons on my desktop through the strawberries, so I can't use this one.

The peas from May were perfect with empty space for my desktop.

Barbara's idea sounds so good! Also, strawberry shortcake has always thrilled me... The combination of creaminess, sweetness, and tartness is enough to make one forget, if only for a while, any worries one may have. All this being said, I usually eat them plain, or with a bit of yogurt. Strawberry shortcake is for special times only....

This picture on my desktop makes me smile...thanks!

Great wallpaper! Thank you :) Made my day.

Best way to enjoy those lovely things for me:

- with homemade pastry cream

- the 'Italian way': lemon and sugar

- never out of style, 'the Dutch way': with whipped cream

(Italian/Dutch way as my own personal way of reference, that is ;))

Beautiful photo! It makes me want to reach right in and take a handful! We're eating strawberries at every opportunity. They're so sweet right now.

My friends and I would go strawberry picking during the season. Make strawberry shortcake with them. I usually freeze the leftover strawberries and use them later to blend smoothies etc. You should share a strawbeery shortcake recipe! I'm sure everyone will love them!~kisskissangela

Love the strawberries - just loaded it to replace last month's peas. My icons are clearly visible - even Adobe Reader which is red shows up well. Now my only problem is that I want some strawberries and our local ones are far from ready.

I agree that this is a gorgeous picture, but... I am the only one who doesn't see the June clanedar on it?
Clotilde, I love your blog, by the way (I rarely comment, but I read it all the time!).

A very nice wallpaper. Unfortunately, the best strawberries are almost over right now here up in the North. Thank you for brightening up my desktop though. I cannot wait to get some strawberries tonight!

Love the wallpapers! Such a great way to brighten up your desktop, and the monthly change is just often enough to keep it fresh.

We pick berries from a local farm every year, and one of the first things we make is strawberry shortcake. But my other favorite is the strawberry frozen yogurt served in meringue nests from David's ice cream book.

Oooh, thank you for the gorgeous pictures. I love this desktop idea.

We have six sweet kids, but they all love strawberries as much as their mom and dad do... so what do we do with fresh strawberries? Pop them in our mouths quick! Before someone else eats them! :-)

The photo is lovely, but I won't be using this desktop as I really can't see anything else! Better luck next month!

Hi, Nice Wallpaper and Nice Calendar.
I am designing some Desktop Calendar Wallpapers in my blog for the last couple of months.

I am wondering could I contribute an Wallpaper to this site in the next month?

Thanks.
