October 2009 Desktop Calendar

At the beginning of every month in 2009, I am offering C&Z readers a new desktop calendar, i.e. a wallpaper to apply on the desktop of your computer, with a food-related picture and a calendar of the current month.
Our desktop calendar for October is a picture of lemon butter cookies, as they appear in my cookbook. Delicately buttery, crisp, and thinly glazed, these sablés au citron draw their flavor from the juice and zest of a lemon, bolstered by a touch of salt. They're a staple from my childhood I revisit often.
Instructions to get your calendar are below.
Here's how it works:
1- This link will open a new window (or tab) displaying the right wallpaper image for your screen.
2- Right-click (or ctrl-click for some Mac users) on the image, and chose the option that says, "Set as Desktop Background", "Use as Desktop Picture," or something to that effect -- the exact wording will depend on the browser you use.
3- If the image does not fit your desktop background neatly, you may have to go to your preference screen (on a Mac: System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop; on Windows: Control Panel > Display > Desktop) and choose "Fit to screen" as the display mode of your background image.
4- Enjoy, and see you in November for the next calendar!
[Note: Readers of this blog live all around the globe, and I am unable to provide localized versions of the desktop calendar at this point. This is why I opted for the international standard, by which a large majority of countries abide, and which states that Monday is the first day of the week.]

Thank you. I've been using your desktop calendar since January and loved it!. My kids like it very much also(the mussels one was a hit with my youngest), and always commented on how yummy your pictures look.
C'est sympa !
Merci beaucoup Clotilde! What a gorgeous picture!
Beautiful picture! I love lemon cookies will have to try these soon. Thanks!
Thanks for another mouth-watering desktop calendar - I look forward to getting these every month!
Would you be willing to divulge what software you use to generate these desktop images?
thanks!
Steve
I have loved your desktop calendars this year, Clotilde! I have them on my computer at work, and many of my colleagues have commented on the wonderful photos. I hope that you will continue to offer these next year!
I very much enjoy these monthly desktop images.
BTW: In what software do you do the calender text and C&Z logo?
Merci bien.
jason.
I have so enjoyed your desktop calendars! (Especially April & September.)
Thank you for providing these. I hope you decide to continue them next year.
I absolutely adore your site, the recipes, and photos.
You have such exciting and inspiring information on your blog. Thanks for the desktop calendar. I like changing my desktop often, like taking a trip with so many things to see.
I love your desctop calendar! But now when I start my computer - I first have to go in the kitchen....
This is awesome - thank you! Although I don't know if it's a good idea for me to stare at cookies on my computer all day, but I'll willing to take the risk. :)
Thank you very much for the kind words, everyone, I'm really pleased that you enjoy these desktop calendars.
Steve and Jason - I create the calendars using Photoshop.
yum yum : )
I've enjoyed these calendars all year too and my coworkers always comment on how yummy my screen looks!
Avec ce calendrier, tout à coup, octobre devient plus doux. Thank you and have a wonderful sunday.

clotilde, i just adore candied chestnuts. do you think you could post a recipe someday that involve them? and also, perhaps a monthly desktop?
marrons glace = heaven in my mouth
I just tried your lemon cookies, they are great!
Clotilde: I used one of your old recipes on my blog this week- from 2004. Hope you get a chance to read it.
I want to eat those cookies right off the screen! Yum!
Hi Clotilde,
Great calendar this month! It got me inspired, and I baked your cookies! I am a big fan of the lemon-poppy seed combination, so I added poppy seed to your recipe, and the cookies turned out very good!
In your book you mention that you sometimes make cut-out cookies with this dough, and I'd like to try that. Can you tell me how to go about it? Do you roll the dough and cut-out the shapes and then chill the cut-out cookies before baking them?
Thank you!
Leticia, from Montreal
Leticia - To make cut-out cookies with this, you would roll out the dough on a lightly floured surgace (chill it for a little while first if it seems too soft to roll out), cut out shapes, and bake. No need to chill the cookies before baking. Let us know how they turn out!
Oh how perfect! I am a regular user of your lovely desktop calendars and this is extra special for me because I just recently discovered your wonderful lemon butter cookies! Yay!
Clotilde, your monthly desktop calendars are wonderful! My co-workers love to see what I'm currently displaying. Though, since I uploaded this most recent one with the irrisistable looking lemon-butter cookies, I have found myself craving cookies everyday! We are only in the 8th day of October - I don't know how I'll last 'til the end of the month! =) Thanks, Kelly *currently doing my utmost to resist a daily trip to the nearest bakery*
A desktop calender to sue of background?! How fabulous and thank you for shairng!
