November 2009 Desktop Calendar

November '09 Desktop Calendar

At the beginning of every month in 2009, I am offering C&Z readers a new desktop calendar, i.e. a wallpaper to apply on the desktop of your computer, with a food-related picture and a calendar of the current month.

Our desktop calendar for November is a picture of what I think of as a Parisian tartine, an open-face sandwich made on naturally leavened bread (here, a slice of pain des amis from the bakery Du Pain et des Idées), lightly spread with semi-salted butter then topped with artisanal ham, thick shavings of aged Comté cheese, and slivers of cornichons. Add a side salad or a fat, late-harvest tomato -- we are still feasting on those -- and that's lunch taken care of.

Instructions to get your calendar are below.

Here's how it works:

1- This link will open a new window (or tab) displaying the right wallpaper image for your screen.

2- Right-click (or ctrl-click for some Mac users) on the image, and chose the option that says, "Set as Desktop Background", "Use as Desktop Picture," or something to that effect -- the exact wording will depend on the browser you use.

3- If the image does not fit your desktop background neatly, you may have to go to your preference screen (on a Mac: System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop; on Windows: Control Panel > Display > Desktop) and choose "Fit to screen" as the display mode of your background image.

4- Enjoy, and see you in December for the next calendar!

[Note: Readers of this blog live all around the globe, and I am unable to provide localized versions of the desktop calendar at this point. This is why I opted for the international standard, by which a large majority of countries abide, and which states that Monday is the first day of the week.]

Love the photo. It makes my stomach growl. I just wanted to let you know that I've been a fan of your blog since who knows when. I recently decided that I want to go to culinary school in Paris and immediately bought your Edible Adventures book! Makes me want to leave right now!

Lovely photo and yummy combination of ham and cheese, plus that piece of bread is a beauty to behold.

Many thanks.

Greetings from London.

Very nice idea! And thank you for going with the "Monday is the first day of the week" choice - it only makes sense since a new week starts after a weekEND.

Yum. That was my favourite sandwich when I was in Paris. I remember it having slices of hard boiled egg on it too...

This calendar is so cute. Will it be available for year 2010?
