January 2011 Desktop Calendar
Happy New Year!
At the beginning of every month, I am offering C&Z readers a new wallpaper to apply on the desktop of your computer, with a food-related picture and a calendar of the current month.
Our calendar for January is a picture of lemon slices I dried in a dehydrator (see these posts on raw buckwheat granola and raw multiseed crackers to know more about my dehydrator episode). I made a big batch of these, and I am keeping them on hand in a jar, to add to stews, riz au lait, and herbal teas.
Instructions to get your calendar are below!
Here's how it works:
1- This link will open a new window (or tab) displaying the right wallpaper image for your screen.
2- Right-click (or ctrl-click for some Mac users) on the image, and chose the option that says, "Set as Desktop Background", "Use as Desktop Picture," or something to that effect -- the exact wording will depend on the browser you use.
3- If the image does not fit your desktop background neatly, you may have to go to your preference screen (on a Mac: System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop; on Windows: Control Panel > Display > Desktop) and choose "Fit to screen" as the display mode of your background image.
4- Enjoy!
[Note: Readers of this blog live all around the globe, and I am unable to provide localized versions of the desktop calendar at this point. This is why I've opted for the international standard, by which a large majority of countries abide, and which states that Monday is the first day of the week.]

I love the calendar..thanks for offering this to your readers. I'm definately going to try making these lemon slices..I can imagine it would be really good in ice tea. Happy New Year !

I have never dried lemon slices. Do they smell good? Would they work in potpourri?
They do smell good, so you could definitely consider them for potpourri. Let us know how it turns out!

Just a follow up on my bold attempt to make maroon glace- They turned out to be coated with a crystalline sheen and were not soft and tender as the ones from Torino.
There was also a good amount of vanilla flavored chestnut sugar that I have saved for some purpose. If you have any suggestions I would be most appreciative.
The January screen saver is up to the high quality of your past ones.
I am so thankful that my friend Pam introduced me to your delightful website.
Incidentally--I did not give them to Pam as intended fearing that she might need to see her dentist afterward!
Seriously I am enjoying them even though they are a far cry from the equisite maroon glace from Torino.

I had never thought to dehydrate lemons: they look gorgeous. You're off to a good start in 2011, already turning lemons into ... dehydrated lemons. ;)
