My favourite non-food blog, one I anticipate almost as much as my daily encounters with all of you here at C & Z can be found at:
www.waiterrant.net
This blog is by a New York waiter working in what sounds to be an upper-middle level Bistro. The writer is a former seminarian and now a long time professional waiter. His writing is so humane and concise he should be teaching. I encourage anyone who has a bit of time to pop on over and have a visit with "the waiter". _________________ Vivant Linguae Mortuae!! |

Thanks for making me remember this blog. Haven't been to visit for a while.
I too really enjoy it. _________________ If you cannot feel your arteries hardening, eat more cheese. If you can, drink more red wine. Diet is just "die" with a "t" on the end. Exercise is walking into the kitchen. |

David, I LOVE the Waiter. His site is one of my mainstays, and is sure to provoke some reaction, and boy do I feel sorry for him tomorrow. But his commentors are right, stay home and make your mom feel special so others can be w/ their moms too.
ETA: Did you listen to his radio interview? He could barely get a word in edgewise against Matty. |

How have I lived without reading this guy until now? He's brilliant! Thanks David. He'll be on my list of regular-blogs-to-visit.
His post-Mothers Day entry will be very interesting, judging by the lead-up to it. _________________ Doing what you like is freedom

I am another huge fan of the waiter. At times hilarious, sometimes so thought-provoking.
Selected posts regularly get printed out and make their way to my husband's work (a fine-dining restaurant here in Sydney) to be enjoyed by the rest of the staff.
I was so shocked to read about how low the pay is - and that the IRS takes into account the tips you are assumed to have made when calculating wait staff's taxes. Basically, if you don't tip, your waiter is still taxed on the tip you didn't give. Unreal.
However, I was not as shocked as my husband, who had to have a little sit down on hearing that..... |

Wow, that will make me think differently about eating out next time we're in the US.
Vickie, may I ask which fine dining restaurant your husband works at? Well, I've asked, but will you tell us? _________________ Doing what you like is freedom

More than happy to, Judy!
It's Watermark, at Balmoral Beach - he's the (relatively new, as in less than a year) Sommelier there.
And if the Waiter's Mother's Day was anything like Michael's, he will be exhausted after a 16 hour day!! But lots of people were made happy, which was the aim... |
