C&Z dreaming

So, maybe it's a signal I spend too much time reading you people...you figured into my dreams last night. Specifically gingerpale, you were a pal o' mine while Chicago Bear was some kind of infamous political figure...from Chicago.

Anyone else have an experience like this?

well dears..since you're mentioning dreams..

years back..maybe 10 ~ I was looking after my sister's children for a couple of days. the first night it rained like seeming never before...a tin roof..so loud it was...

We had dinner and I read them stories..then to bed they went..'n slept...not moi however...the rain!!! I listened to music and read...always with the rain...the house was on a bit of a hill and I thought "We could be cut off." Surprised

~ however I thought we'd be fine.

That night I dreamt the librarian at our children's high school was standing in front of the entire school assembly stressing the need to drive carefully in the rain.. She was using her arm..moving it up and down with finger pointed...over and over again..this stressing the need to drive carefully in the rain...

A few days later when I was at the library (I used to help out) I asked her why I would have dreamt about her...she asked me what night it was...when I told her, she said: "I didn't sleep that night because our son was driving down the Pacific Highway (stretches of which are ghastly) in the rain."

Wow! Now there's empathy!

Reminds me of stories I've heard from people who live on the north end of Vancouver Island. A rain forrest. One woman was telling me about a night when they had 11" of rain. I had come from SoCal where in a big year we get 6" of rain. I can't imagine what 11" of rain overnight would be like. Shocked

Hope her son heeded the warnings even if you were intercepting them a bit. Say he arrived home OK.

I had a dream about 20 years ago when I worked as an ICU nurse and thinking of it even now still chills me.

I had been nursing an 80 year old man who had been 'persuaded' ( = bullied - he had cancer and didn't want anything else done) into having surgery he didn't want. I got very close to him and his family and one night after finishing work at 11pm I went home and dreamt that he had a cardiac arrest, and all I could do was stand and cry while all the medical staff resuscitated him.

I got back to work the next morning to find that that poor man had in fact had a cardiac arrest during the night and had been resuscitated. And then I really did cry. I left ICU nursing soon after that.

Judy I wonder how long he lived after that... do you think patients are treated differently now? Is it required to try to start a stopped heart ?

There's such a tragic irony in the people who are the most caring and dedicated being the ones to get burned out.

Isn't there something like a rotation where you do some of the heavy emotional work for a while and then get a little mental R&R by working in the nursery for a while? I guess there are issues of specialization but there must be some restorative fields that would keep the best people from leaving the most intense specialties altogether.

I wonder if nurses who care for terminal patients tend to believe in an afterlife--that would make all the difference, I think. You'd just be helping to ease a dying man comfortably to paradise, as God wills. OR, you'd be present at the last few painful lousy days before life ends, with it love and light and knowledge. hee hee aren't I cheerful tonight...

Here could be a thread--who out there has had what they consider to be a really truly supernatural experience? But a ponderous thread and I'm not gonna start it. (I've never even had a natural high, always enjoyed the synthetic kind though!)

gingerpale, he didn't live much longer. I saw his family after he passed away and they were grateful that he was finally at peace. So was I. I do look after terminal patients now, and definitely believe in an afterlife. I just can't believe that the energy of our souls just disappears when we die.

And yes, unless a patient actually has a 'Do Not Resuscitate' order written in his notes, after consultation between Dr patient & relatives, we have to try to resuscitate him. Even when commonsense would sometimes suggest otherwise.

I'm not sure about 'supernatural', but my brother gave us plenty of clues that he was still around us after he died. We were very grateful for them.

I'm ready for a supernatural thread... Wink

however not today...maybe in a few days time...a dear friend of my parents died two days back...my husband,some of my siblings, and my dad are driving 6 hours to the funeral...she was a great pal of ours..over 100 ~ for any out there who know of Manly, when she was young she used to dive off the Manly Wharf (people would throw pennies into the water) ~ a wild and wonderful woman..

when I heard she'd died, I immediately imagined my mother, my sweet soul-filled mother, hugging Dot in welcome to the beyond beyond place we travel too...

Rainey Darlin' ...the son drove carefully during the night!

in a few days...gingerpale, escort moi! to the land of the "most would not believe this" ~ will be interesting..

I am sorry you have lost your friend! I was planning to put a certain poem in your poem thread, the old stove photo you posted inspired me--I will do it right after this post.
The word "Manly" caught my attention because the poet 's name is Gerard Manley Hopkins. (Odd, but does NOT qualify as supernatural!)
