Erin, have a wonderful trip and get the place warmed up for me! I will be leaving on March 15th and am starting to realize I am actually going.

I am excited to hear about your treip to Prague, it sounds so interesting there. I hope the weather is better in Paris than last year. I was there beginning of March and it was colder than in Wisconsin! And it snowed. I froze the entire time I was out and about.

Does anyone know what the status of La Samaritaine on Rue Rivoli is? Also I tried to find La Maison de la Vanille with no luck last year. Has it moved or closed?

Last I checked Paris was 37F, it was 12F here this morning. I really hope Paris isn't that cold while we are there.

La Samaritaine will not be open for 5 years. They are having to completely renovate the fire and emergecy facilities without damaging the heritage value of the building.

There is a bit of a fuss that the owners are trying to keep it closed and turn the building into a boutique hotel... haven't heard anything about that which rings very true though, mainly just gossip etc.

Have not heard of Maison de la vanille sorry. Do you remember where it was previously?

The temps here are varying between mildly cool and cold. They are predicting snow for this week, but so far just lots of rain. The temp today was 5 degrees c. Perfect for lots of walking and sightseeing.

Debbie, I believe the Maison de la Vanille was on Rue Cardinal Lemoine, #18
I had heard such lovely things about it, but could not find a trace of it.

So sad if they close Samartaine to turn it in to a hotel. I guess I will have to treasure the crappy but cute little candle holders I bought there last year!

While I think I may invest in an electronic thesaurus my attatchment is strong to this particular book. It isn't to aide in my french, just my imagination. Like I said, I'm a huge nerd. Thanks!

I decided to replace my defunct Palm. I'm just not an organized person. I'm going to download some dictionaries for it. Do you look up words during a conversation or plan ahead?

I just use it for writing purposes, and inspiration. I speak french better than I thought I did and learned quite a bit of Czech before our trip. Carring around my thesaurus is just a weird habit I have.

Wow! I know this is an old thread, but I've learned so so many tips from all you. Right now, I'm packing 2 suitcases with a limit of 50 lbs each for a year in Japan. My departure is this Saturday, so stumbling upon this thread was a godsend. Thank you!
