I was in Paris several weeks ago
at the Bon Marche food market
saw a vegetable
slender long green stalk
with a little triangle on top
as if a child had drawn an asparagus spear
(i have seen young asparagus)
not the same
any ideas???
they were bundled up in groups of about 30
and cost about 6 euros
and it was Saturday and the women at the counter didn't understand my faltering French question
thanks for the help

If it looked a little like a bunch of green wheat ears, it could be wild asparagus. If it looked like chives with a bulbous triangle on the end of each frond it may be wild garlic buds, or garlic chive buds.
The wild asparagus is a bit expensive, so that is probably what it is. Next time if you have a digital camera, take your camera and snap a photo. I have done that before and then showed the photo to someone who could explain it to me in english.... this works well for signs etc as well _________________ If you cannot feel your arteries hardening, eat more cheese. | Definitely wild asparagus -- wonderful mild flavor and a springtime treat. |
