Sharpening knives in Paris

Hello Parisians,

Looking for some local knowledge. Where can I get my knives sharpened in Paris? When we were living in San Francisco, I got them done professionally. Through a coworker I found this quirky, Vietnam Vet near 17th and Mission who did a beautiful job. Anyway, while we have our own sharpening stone, my knives need a more thorough make-over. My thumbs are at stake! Any tips on where to go?

I wish I had a recommendation because I'd love to have my own knives taken care of too : I find it a little difficult to use a sharpening stone exactly in the right way. There used to be a "rémouleur" (as was the name of the job in olden days) walking the streets around my parents' place from time to time, but I haven't seen him in a while, and don't know who else could do it... But of course, if I hear of anything I'll let you know!
Anyone else has any idea?

I live in the 20th and there's a guy that calls by every second weekend, ringing his bell, looking for knives to sharpen. I'll ask if he does the 17th next time he passes.

Thanks everyone. At the C & Z party, one person suggested I go to a key-maker or cobbler and ask their advice on where to go.

I was also told that E. Dehillerin would sharpen knives for you as well, but they probably subcontract this out to someone else, so the crafty thing to do would be to find out who they go to. A mission, should someone choose to take it!

I'll have to ask at Dehillerin next time I go! That's where I bought my sharpening stone, but I can't seem to learn how to use it correctly, even though the guy at Dehillerin showed me. I guess Im just paralysed by the fear of ruining my knife blades!
