We're (two adults and two teenagers) are going to be in Paris from Christmas to New Year's day. On New Year's Eve, we'd like to eat early and then romp around getting a sense how the city celebrates. We're staying at Abbaye Hotel. Haven't been to Paris in 25 years so it's a bit flying blind for us.

Does anyone have recommendations for the evening? Perhaps a restaurant or two near our hotel (vegetarian or Italian)? Any public events or promenades that will be fun?

This site has been extremely helpful -- not just for ideas but as a cultural compass.....
