It's the season of giving and I'm tapped out on ideas or tired of things I've made dozens of times before.
What's festive for the holidays? And what whips up fast so I can do several kinds?

Quick and easy.. I guess it depends on your definition of that Rainey. hehe
It seems that most Southern Italian Chistmas treats are involved. Or take a little effort anyhow. Toasting nuts, stuffing dough and stirring torrone.. All well worth it but for simplicity's sake given the time of year.. (and if you have some fresh figs around..)
24 fresh figs (about 1lb) or dried
1/4c slivered almonds
1/4c candied orange peel
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
4 oz good quality semi sweet chocolate
Preheat oven to 350F
Slice figs a little over halfway through
Mix almonds, diced peel, and cloves. Stuff figs with mixture.
Press closed and place on tray, stems up.
Bake 6-8 minutes of fresh (3-5 minutes if dried)
Gently melt chocolate. When just melted, hold warm fig by stem and dip into warm chocolate. Place on waxed paper and let cool. Store in covered contained in fridge. Remove 1 hour prior to serving.
The white chocolate drizzle/decoration looks flash too.
See the pic on the link below.

Leo- They sound delicious and the photo is quite impressive, but our fig season comes in summer. I've put the recipe in my DB for then. _________________ God writes a lot of comedy... the trouble is, he's stuck with so many bad actors who don't know how to play funny. -- Garrison Keillor |
