This reminds me of what I just read today about an event during the American Civil War. The Confederates hollowed out a piece of dark iron shapped like a piece of coal and filled it with 10 pounds of gun powder. This they snuck into the Union supplies and when it was loaded into a ship's stack and eventually shoveled into the boiler, it exploded with a big bang.
