gingerpale, I'm a fan of Joan Baez' soul and always on the lookout for contemporaries. I'm kicking myself because I missed the chance to see Odetta in my town a few weeks ago. She played within a few hundred yards of my house and I didn't know it till after.

madameshawshank, "Collecting the moments one by one" comes from Feist. She's more pop than folk (I suppose - what, besides classical isn't folk?), but soulful nonetheless and reminds me of Billie Holiday in her style. She features some electronic, but to great musical effect. Maybe you'll like her too.
