On SlashFood they're talking about the explosion on the market of slicers for every conceivable type of fruit and vegetable and wondering if any of them are worth bothering when a knife will do as well.
What kind of slicers do you own? Which would you save from a burning kitchen drawer (OK, I've never seen a burning kitchen drawer either but none of us is going to go into a burning house for a gadget...)? Which are you still wondering why you actually paid for?
I've got two egg slicers that I actually use. One does flat slices. One does 6 identical wedges. I have to go check my drawers (I'm sure there's something dopey in there I am a gadget whore) to see what else I've got but those are the two I use.
I'd like to get one of those nifty round slicers that make a channel in a zucchini or take out the seeds from a cucumber but I only want one size and I've only found packages of three sizes.
I also crave one of those fabulous accordian/expandable pastry cutters. Never happen! They must be very expensive and would occupy most of a drawer by themselves. _________________ God writes a lot of comedy... the trouble is, he's stuck with so many bad actors who don't know how to play funny. -- Garrison Keillor |
