moonglow on all ~ especially those aching ~ for whatever reason...

the moon pearl asks to be asked...

and so, even though our night sky this evening will appear moonless, given the rains of today ~ I'll still put in my request...

perfect half-moon tonight - is that significant?

I'm always very aware of full moons, especially when we're camping in the outback. They somehow seem bigger, brighter, better and closer to nature there.

Geoffrey Blaney wrote a wonderful book a couple of years ago - 'Black Kettle and Full Moon' - about the significance of full moons on rural communities. Dances were held at full moon, and the flyer advertising them always advised: " Full Moon", so that people knew they could travel home at, say, midnight, and be assured that they had light to travel home by.

When we're travelling in the desert during a full moon, my father-in-law gets us up to view it going down in the early morning. He's an early riser, we're not, but it's a wonderful sight and worth getting up for.

A policeman I know said all sorts of things happen 'round full moon time..they used to be prepared for anything..

Judy, that's a lovely idea. I'm going to start convincing my family they want to watch the moon go down next time it's full. Sounds like a new holiday, and a fine reason to make up a special snack. Moon cakes, perhaps.

I've heard so many people claim that the full moon affects behavior, but only the behavior of others, never themselves!!

sweetbabyjames I think I'm inventing a new color thanks to a mention in one of your previous posts--just imagine telling one's decorator that you want the linen throw pillows in "gingerpale pearl". Gorgeous!

It's not only people's behaviour that a full moon affects. When I worked as a midwife, we were busier during full moons and also during thunderstorms.

Well Judy, thanks to your luney inspiration, our first Full Moon Day holiday was beautiful. We decided against a sleepy a.m. moonset and went for evening moonrise over the ocean instead. It came up a deep red, faded to orange, then yellow till it was pearly white above our heads.

My Chinese mooncake mold arrived in the mail today (from The Wok Shop in San Francisco), so I have to find a proper recipe before September 7th, to make the next celebration complete.

Gingerpale, whenever I think of ginger, an image of Honeydew melon pops into my head. So Gingerpale Pearl conjures a pearlescent palest-of-pale green orb.
