I would like to buy a French cookbook for a couple as a wedding present - she is French and he is Anglo-Italian, but speaks French. The trouble is, I don't know any good French cookbooks! Any suggestions for something gift-appropriate from the French readers here?

As charlsy said, it depends on what type of book you are looking for. BUT my most favorite new French cookbook, at the moment, is "Tentations" by Philippe Conticini, published by Marabout.
It is so beautiful! It is also: full of wonderful, inspiring recipes; quite large 28cm x 41cm (11" x 16") which makes it a coffee table book as well as a cook book.
It is NOT: A classic old French cookbook (but there are clear references to the past, in a very modern way).
