These are the poems.......with my French translation:
Id like to meet you
In a timeless, placeless place
Somewhere out of context
And beyond all consequences
I wont use words again
They dont mean what I meant
They dont say what I said
Theyre just the crust of the meaning
With realms underneath
Never touched
Never stirred
Never even moved through.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
There is a field. Ill meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
Doesnt make any sense.
Loin au-delà des idées de la raison et du tort
Il y a un pré. Je te verrai là.
Quand s'allonge l'âme sur cette verdure, la terre est trop remplie à en parler.
Idées, langues, même des phrases
L'une à l'autre n'ont pas de sens. |

The first 4 lines come, if I remember correctly, from a song by Suzanne Vega called "language", from her album "solitude standing" (1987). Before and after these lines there are some lines which you don't quote, followed by the next 8 lines.
Here you'll find an interview with her, where she mentions the other poem as well: http://home.nestor.minsk.by/jazz/press/2006/09/2512.html |
