Farmers' markets enrich communities

At least so says the University of California. I know I feel enriched to have two within driveable distance on Saturday and Sunday.

i couldn't agree more. I spent the morning at my local farmers market finishing off getting my winter supplies of maple products (syrup, jelly and butter), more jams and pickles, garlic supplies (oil, vinegar, fresh, chopped and dehydrated) and a wood and stained glass "memory box" to put some of Dick's things in. Oh and some squashes for a squash and leek soup! All the goods are grown in spitting distance of my village and all the vendors are neighbours---next week is the last of the regular market days and I shall sorely miss them until next spring!

Yes! Apart from the fact that you're getting better food and making a way of life possible for small farmers, they really help to maintain a sense of community. Maybe that's extra special in a highly urban area like mine, but it feels so pleasant to stroll around among other families and individuals. No check out lines. No rush to get home and throw dinner on the table. Just random peeks at what looks good and sharing something particularly wonderful with a complete stranger who appreciates the same things.
