Hi Cigalechanta, your advice is probably for Swan, but I agree with you, I know of course they are fake, but some of them good fake- if you like the "genre" I don't. . But what do you mean by "they will be taken away at customs"? In Europe? who goes through customs and why would anyone confiscate a bag? Is this the case in the USA?
Rachel, thank you. London is very much on my mind - I miss it after 6 years . Maybe I'll succeed to come for a week in late autumn.
No more war, no more fake bags! |

Well, they do check 'at random'in Europe, even if you go through the 'nothing to declare' door.
But as a minisnob I much prefer 'real' things - so I don't think I'll fall for them! Much rather try alll the mentioned icecreams...!!
PS Simona, I just PM-ed you! |

Simona,
If you're coming to London in late autumn (and it's after November 15th) do let me know and I'll meet you there. Maybe Rachel could join us too if she's free.
Swan,
I'm with you, the real stuff or nothing! Go for the ice creams instead...! _________________ Confusion comes fitted as standard. |

Hello dear Londoners,
I wouldn't dream being in London and not trying to meet you all.
I'll let you know, as there are many "ifs.. " involved.
Of course only the real one- mine is waiting around the corner of year 2050!! ( and that , only after I was advanced in the waiting list by a high ranking good friend... ha ha). I can't wait...!!
No more war ! War may delay the manufacture of my bag!!! |

Simona and Griffin - sorry to disappoint you, but I won't be in London this autumn. I'm moving back to the States tomorrow. It was a tough decision, but I've had to come to terms with the idea that if I want the career I've always dreamed of, I'll have to go back and work there for a few years... til my CV looks so good that no UK museum will be able to resist hiring me!
So if you do meet up this autumn, raise a glass for me... I'll be there in spirit. And hopefully in the flesh too, a few years down the line! |

Dear Rachel, good luck and a lot of success !
we will certainly raise a glass ( or more), thinking of you and the good (and cheap) life in the US.
Have a safe journey back,
No more war. |

Rachel,
If the V&A can't appreciate you, it's their loss. Good luck back home and I hope it all works out for you. I know how hard pursuing a museum career is. Er, what about your very own medievalist? Is he coming with you? Are you going to sneak him on the plane in your suitcase with enough chocolate to keep him fed?!
I will wait for you to come back and run the V&A. That will teach them... and you'll be able to get at that Poiret dress too!!
We'll miss you, but wish you well, with many triumphs to your name. Safe journey.
Simona,
definitely no more war if it will delay your bag. But then you'll need a whole outfit too so that should postpone war further! Even better. _________________ Confusion comes fitted as standard. |

Thank you all for your good wishes - very much appreciated!
Judy, I am first heading home (Chicago) but a mere three days later, I have an interview in Philadelphia. So I am hoping/praying/dreaming to move to Philadelphia... fingers crossed.
Griffin, it's very kind of you to say that I should run the V&A but unfortunately I have no ambition whatsoever to run it - or any museum. If I did then I'd have to spend most of my time buttering up potential donors and very little doing research or anything else I enjoy. No thanks! (Keeper of one of the collections I wouldn't say no to, though...) And sadly I'm not taking Glyn with me - he can't leave his job. At least that gives me a very good reason to come back to London regularly.
...but I'm afraid I seem to have hijacked this thread, which hasn't got much to do with Nice at this point. Sorry!
Simona, I will borrow your signature phrase again (hope you don't mind): no more war, no more fake bags, more real bags, more ice cream and may we all meet in London (or Nice, or somewhere else) someday. |

Heya swan!! 2 friends of mine are off to Nice even as I type to stay with friends there. George is taking his MacBook (or whatever) and will send me suggestions as they go along. And I'll post them here. Ah, dear George and Jean-Louis--globe trotting dentist and lawyer! _________________ Vivant Linguae Mortuae!! |

Back for a while now and already making new travelling plans (and a new post ), but promised to report back.
Had a beautiful weekend with LOTS of icecream from Fenoccio (I especially loved the rose-orangeflower-jasmin flavours, had them as well as avocado, fig, ricepudding, raspberry and lychee).
One of our diners was at Terre de Truffe, where we had - oh yes, a wonderful truffle-based dinner. The ravioli...!!!! We had a wonderful dinner in a tiny little thing in the old town called l'olivier (if I recall correctly) - simple, local food prepared with love - and a special olive oil to accompany each dish, even desert, great!
We walked a lot, did the market every day, saw the harbour, went to St. Paul and to Vence, and even to Monaco. (I robbed the casino of a stunning 1,40 euro ...HAD to get paid by the cashier in the casino of Monte Carlo!!).
So all in all...a wonderful weekend, thank you all for your tips!! |
