While checking on the Alain Ducasse dessert book and momentarily gasping at the price...$250 Oz...I got to thinking "Is there a limit to what I would pay for a book?"
just an out there ?
when I look at my bookshelves, collectively some would say..no there IS no limit if you think of a collection as ONE book...
how much fun would it be to make Ducasse desserts!!!!!!
I made a strawberry shortcake for the first time yesterday...all agreed it was delicious...if Alain ever drops in, I might just whip one up! _________________ "I've never accepted the external appearance of things as the whole truth. I tidied my bookshelf yesterday. I think my most expensive cookbook is a Roger Vergé bought in the '80's for around NZ$80. I've never cooked from it but I love to read it over and over. I'm transported to the South of France when I see those pictures. Friends living in the South of France at the time dined at his restaurant and said the food was so rich it took them days to recover. _________________ Barbara |

My 2 most expensive cookbooks were both gifts, lucky me. The latest edition of Stephanie Alexander's Cook's Companion retails for $AUD125 but it can usually be found on special for under $100. I use it constantly.
A few years ago I 'babysat' a family of teenagers while their parents had a weekend away somewhere and to say thanks they gave me Charlie Trotters cookbook. It's a beautiful book but I have never cooked anything out of it as it all looks too complicated. Lovely to look at though. _________________ Doing what you like is freedom

Well, if $250 is your limit, then I suppose this collection is out of the question.
But for your eight grand, you do get over a thousand books... |

$115 is the most I have ever spent on a book, and that was for my Oxford Dictionary. If I came across the right book I know I would pay more. _________________ "It's watery....and yet there's a smack of ham."
