Hey All, I need some help!

I just booked tickets for my husband and I to London, YAY! While we are there we will be visiting some friends in Nottinghamshire, and then intend to visit a few other cities in Europe. I am trying to book some flights on the more local airlines but am having trouble finding some. I have already found bmibaby, ryanair, and easyjet, but would like to find some that are based out of other countries than England. Ex. we can get flights to Edinburgh and on to Prague, but am unable to find an airline that will take me on to Paris from either location. This is hurting my head.

If any of you have some suggestions ,(short of a train, chunnel, boat), I could really use the help. Thanks!

Erin,

the cheaper European airlines like the ones you mentioned tend to fly to secondary airports, especially for big cities like Paris. This means they are cheaper, but then there's often a long hike to the city center. If you want to arrive staight into CdG airport, then you may have to go with one of the national flag carriers (Air France, BAA, KLM, etc.) rather than one of the cheaper upstarts.

You might also check dba airlines (based out of Germany) - www.flydba.com as well.

I am going to be flying out of Nottingham East Midlands and there are several of those type that fly out of there. I know bmibaby flies out of there to CDG, but it doesn't really matter to me if we fly into smaller airports. My husband would have a heart attack if I went nuts of tickets, I would rather wait until the shopping does it to him, ha, ha! Thanks for the info though.

Have you looked into www.europebyair.com? You can buy one-way flights for only $99, but the routes are limited.

Dear Erin,
I understand you prefer to fly from PAris to Prague. But I'll allow myself to suggest the train, it's cheaper and quicker: the train takes you directly from center of one town to the center of your destination, nice view, no airports, no time wasted , no delays, no transfer fares. Of course, I speak about the continent. Where are you palnning to travel, besided London?

The ones you list are the airlines which I use myself. Think there is a place called last minute vacations also? Think it might be lastminute.com ?

I think Prague is one of the places that you really do need to consider trains rather than flying. Most of the people I know travel to there (from within Europe) by train.

I am going to be able to fly to Prague for about 7GBP. I was hoping to save time by flying, but maybe I will have to look into the possibility of taking the train. It is Paris I am having trouble getting a flight to, Prague and Edinburgh are easy.

Hi Erin,

I just checked the RyanAir site for a personal trip, and I thought I saw Paris as a destination (it's definitely not CdG though - don't know where the airport is...probably 2 hours away from the city center!). Maybe the problem with RyanAir and EasyJet is that they have limited connections from the cities that aren't their hubs, but if you're willing to connect from, say Edinburgh through Gatwick or Dublin and then on to Paris, you should be able to - but that's a huge investment in time that you may not want to make.

Lucky you! The trip sounds great. Try opodo.co.uk for flights. I just did a search for Paris - Prague flights and loads came up. Air France, Lufthansa, Austrian Air, KLM etc all fly this route.

However, they are significantly more expensive than 7GPD, which sounds like one of Ryan Air's special deals to me - sometimes these don't include airport tax, so watch out for that.

What are your plans in London? I'm English myself and having one of my ever-so-slightly homesick days, so indulge me!

Unfortunately my account's not active yet, so I can
post publicly. Here's a private response for now!

I don't know when you and your husband are traveling,
but Easyjet will start Prague-Paris and
Amsterdam-Paris routes in spring 2006.

Until then, check out www.wizzair.com; Wizzair flies
into Paris Beauvais airport, about 1.5 hours from
Paris by an easy 13-euro shuttle bus. Also check out
www.skyeurope.com; Skyeurope flies out of Paris Orly
Sud, one of the central airports. Others:
www.germanwings.com, www.sterlingticket.com for
Northern destinations. None of these flies directly
from Prague to Paris, but some do fly Budapest, Krakow
(lovely medieval town in Poland), etc.

I won't be in London for very long, we get in at 8:00am and I figure we would drop our stuff off and go exploring. The next morning we are taking the train up to Nottinghamshire to stay with a some friends. She is planning trips to Wales, Darbyshire, and the Cotswolds to name a few. We will be there three days before heading out for a week, but we will be going back so all of that isn't crammed into three days. We will be going back to London for two nights before flying home. I know I would like to visit British History Museum, but I am kind of at a loss of what to do there. I don't want to do all kinds of touristy things, and would like to find things to do that are off the beaten path. As a former Londoner do you have any favorite haunts you could recommend to me? We are getting tickets to the Royal Opera from a friend that works there, not sure what it will be though.

I just bought my tickets to Paris and Prague now I am looking for hotels.
In Paris we are staying at Hotel Grande Ecole, where I have been wanting to stay forever! In Prague I am sort of at a loss. My friends who have been there stayed in hostels, and that really doesn't appeal to me in the least. If anyone has a suggestion I would love to hear it.

Also how's the weather in both places at the end of February, beginning of March?

Prague's weather then will be COLD.
Bring some silk underwear and warm socks.
Prepare for snow.

Look for lots of warm stewy dishes to keep you warm.

Also, Prague's cobblestones are the most feet-unfriendly I have ever encountered. Bring shoes with a thick, flexible sole.

It is a great city. Have a great time
