Thanks for the tip, maybe they will be a job for my flats.

According to a Czech author whose name escapes me, there are three kinds of people in this world;

Those who would look at a bowl of doughnuts and think nothing.

Those who would look at a bowl of doughnuts and dream of throwing them.

Those who would look at a bowl of doughnuts and start throwing.

Donna, I believe you are the third! The converted US price is about sixty dollars. Of the two of us I think Phil would be the more likely to throw the doughnuts, where as I would be more likely to spend the money.

You may be right - for $60 I would rather buy a new pair of shoes than throw a doughnut! Laughing

Just get a lot of pics of the dougnut throwing!

I hate doughnuts, so given a choice I would rather throw than eat one!! Razz

I hate to burst your jelly donut, but when I was at the Imperial Cafe I did not see any donut throwing. Maybe it was an off day, but it wasn't evident and I haven't heard of it before.

Take the time to learn a few Czech words (please, thank you, check please). It will make a big difference in the service you receive.

creampuff, I doubt many people are really shelling out the crown's, euro's or dollars no matter what classification they fall into. I am most impressed with the author's wit. By the way, which person would you be?

I don't know who the author is ( I don't think it's Kafka's style) but I believe he forgot the forth kind of persons in this world: the ones who will eat the donuts. I certainly belong to this category, and it shows.

Dobry den Creampuff, Jak se mate? I missed it before but I have learned quite a bit of Czech. It look's so hard but is astonishingly easy to learn.

Just wanted to second Creampuff's suggestion that you see the Jewish quarter -- especially the Jewish Cemetary there. It's really the one sight that has remained in my mind even though we were there years ago.

Do be careful about taking taxis in Prague -- the drivers are INFAMOUS for ripping people off. The mayor of Prague once put on a disguise and posed as a foreign tourist to see how bad the problem was and was charged seven times the standard fare for a trip across the city. The last thing you want to do is have to give all your doughnut money to a taxi driver! Wink

I have seen several warnings about cabs which raises the question, has anyone taken a cab from the airport into the city? Aren't they metered? If I am going to negotiate a fare, what is decent? Should we take a cab or are trains a better alternative?

We were there years ago, but I did find this on a travel site for you:

"Taking a taxi is probably the most convenient way to get to your destination, but also the most expensive and with the most potential for you to get ripped off and have a bad experience right after you step off your flight (it has happened to us before). If you would like to take a taxi from the airport, either arrange with your hotel beforehand to be picked up (many Prague hotels offer airport transfers and use professional and courteous drivers), or call a taxi by phone (see Taxi for recommended companies). If you have to get into a random taxi that's parked at the airport terminal, confirm the price with the driver before you get in. A ride from the Prague airport to a destination in the center should cost around 600 Kč."

I do not know this! I have only heard of the thermo wear for the cold. I would love silk underwear. is it still available? I would love any reply.

Silk thermals are the ultimate in thermal underwear. Haven't seen them much in Oz, but they were readily available in the US and probably all over the Northern Hemisphere.

REI has some info about women's silk thermal tops that you might find interesting

also possum jumpers and nipple warmers! And kids sets. i will be trying them.
