5-Ingredient Recipes

Two weeks ago, I wrote about Jules Clancy’s fantastic new book, 5 Ingredients, 10 Minutes, and offered to give away three copies as prizes in a 5-ingredient recipe contest.

You collectively submitted nearly 140 five-ingredient recipes, all of which sound fantastic and provide a fascinating glimpse into your personal tastes and appetites. It’s been very difficult to pick just three — why, oh why do I put myself in these situations? — but I had to, so I elected Ms. C’s pan-fried tofu with kale and noodles, Rakhi’s mujaddara, and Pierre Pozi’s sardine boulettes (submitted in the French version of the contest). Congratulations! You will soon be receiving your copy of 5 Ingredients, 10 Minutes.

And to thank you all for your invaluable contributions, I’ve collated your recipe formulas into a masterlist we can all dip into; recipe details can be found in the comment section of the original post. (If you read French, you’ll find even more 5-ingredient suggestions in the French masterlist.)

Thanks for the Masterlist! I am soooo printing it and sticking it on my fridge. Hoping my kids get inspired to cook for themselves when coming back from school!!!

You’re right, many of those would be great options for kids to start cooking without feeling overwhelmed.

It is amazing how many 5-ingredient dishes are so wonderfully tasting and quick to fix! Just goes to show you that you don’t need dozens of ingredients to make a perfect dish!

This really shows how simplicity can really win out when it comes to cooking.

Could do with more smoothies and deserts though!

    Why only 3?

Chocolate + (Who needs the other 4 ingredients!)

    • http://chocolateandzucchini.com clotilde

I think most participants focused on savory dishes because my post talked about finding the time and energy to cook something nourishing at the end of a long day, and dessert seems perhaps less crucial to solving that equation.

I don’t think the book is available in Spanish at this time, but here’s hoping a Spanish publisher picks it up!

Oh hooray for simple + tasty! Thank you!! Another for the seafood list, as sadly I missed the original post: Belgian scallops = endive cooked in a little butter and bière blanche, with pan-fried scallops served on top (plus s+p – do they count?)

    • http://chocolateandzucchini.com clotilde

      Yum, thanks! (S+P don’t count. :)
