January 2009 Desktop Calendar

January '09 Desktop Calendar

First of all, let me offer you my most sincere wishes for a Delicious New Year: may you and yours be healthy, safe, happy, and well fed throughout 2009.

And to ring in the new year, I have a little gift for you: at the beginning of every month, I will be sharing a new C&Z desktop calendar, i.e. a wallpaper to apply on the desktop of your computer, so you can enjoy a seasonal food picture and a handy calendar of the current month.

We begin with a picture of chouquettes* — don’t the sugar crystals remind you of fat snowflakes? — and you can get yours below.

* See chouquette recipe here.

Here’s how it works:

1- This link will open a new window (or tab) displaying the right wallpaper image for your screen.

2- Right-click (or ctrl-click for some Mac users) on the image, and chose the option that says, “Set as Desktop Background”, “Use as Desktop Picture,” or something to that effect — the exact wording will depend on the browser you use.

3- If the image does not fit your desktop background neatly, you may have to go to your preference screen (on a Mac: System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop; on Windows: Control Panel > Display > Desktop) and choose “Fit to screen” as the display mode of your background image.

4- Enjoy!

Bonne Annee, Clotilde! What a lovely gift for all of us — can’t wait to download it to my computer at work, and make everybody’s mouths water!

Thank you Clotilde! I was in Paris recently and fell in love with these cookies. Seeing them on my desktop will remind me of that delicious trip.

Hi Clotilde – 2008 seemed like another wonderful year for you, and thank you for sharing your cracking ideas and witty thoughts through this little gem (C&Z, that is).

May 2009 be an even more exciting and successful year for you, and keep inspiring us with your words and photography and beyond. Hoping to see you again in Paris (or in Japan if you can make it here!).

that’s a great idea. thank you!

Where I live, SNOW is a bad word. Atlanta, GA shuts down with 15 flakes.

The cookies will be great on my school computer. Of course, students will want me to make the special of the month. That sounds like something I can do and they will enjoy it. I have all boys in my class.

I bought an 11 cup Cuisinart food process for Christmas and I look forward to making lots of things. It will mix all kinds of dough. I think cinnamon rolls will be first.

I have King Arthur sourdough starter to play with. My students will eat most anything so it will not go to waste. So if you have any recipes, please let me know.

How FUN! You are so creative. Thank you.

Not to seem greedy, but do you happen to have a recipe to accompany the tantalizing picture of the chouquettes? The new screen saver is a wonderful idea – thank you so much! But will we have to stare at the screen each month, never having an opportunity to sample what looks like it would be so good to eat? I have had these small puffs before and would love to know where I can find a reliable recipe for them…

Thank you very much Clotilde! I had initially checked the recipe index and could not find the chouquettes there. But did I miss the recipe link in your initial post above as well? My apologies for any inconvenience and also for my flightiness, if I did. Thank you again!

  • Laura

Clotilde – what a great, creative and fun idea! I’m already enjoying it as my background, and I have to say that the details on the picture are AMAZING. It has enticed me to try the recipe this weekend. Merci pour très magnifique blog. Je te souhaite une Joyeuse Année! xx

PS – will you be creating a French monthly desktop calendar??

  • Joan

Oh, how lovely! Clotilde, I’m wondering if you already have February’s in mind …a heart-shaped French stamp perhaps :-)

    ahh!! Clothide, I love this!
My mum and I adore chouquettes, and every time we eat them we pick up every single last sugar pearl just so that the sugar pearls didn’t form so beautifully in vain… love love love.

Happy new year – you just made my day.

What a gorgeous photo but I dare not have that as my wallpaper. I’d be running to the donut store every day and there would go my New Year’s resolution

Thank you for the lovely gift. I’m reluctant at the moment to change my wallpaper, as it’s a close up photo I took of a “pain aux raisins.” We’ve returned home from our 2 months in Paris and want to savor the memory of those delicious taste treats. I’m sure I’ll add your delicious images soon. Merci et bonne annee.

Clotilde, I love it! I just downloaded it and it’s a perfect complement to the somewhat rainy and chilly day we’re having here.

    Hugs,
    Mia
